Aimed at providing a safe, convenient and anonymous means of disposing of unwanted prescription drugs, the DEA is once again sponsoring its National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, 4/28/18.
The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, over 6 million Americans abused controlled prescription drugs. That number, unfortunately, continues to grow. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet. Take Back Day events provide an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths. In addition, these events help protect our environment from the improper disposal of these medications.
